It just wasn't usable for us in the older WP release for those reasons, but we found a commercial replacement - WYSIWYG Pro which works. It just wasn’t usable for us in the older WP release for those reasons, but we found a commercial replacement – WYSIWYG Pro which works.

Though I’d really like a built-in spell checker and auto-save. :-)
